The other small dove of the northern arid areas that you will hear, is the Diamond Dove with it's harsher 'cooing' call. This delicate little dove is often seen in extremely harsh dry stoney country, feeding on seeds scattered on the ground under shrubs.
On a hot afternoon, groups of Peaceful Doves come to the bird bath at the Broome Bird Observatory, looking for water and relief from the extreme heat and humidity.
The lovely Diamond Doves, so called beacause of the small white spots on the wings, are at home in the cattle country of the Kimberleys. Easily identified from the other doves by their bright red eye-rings.
