And the bush has friends to meet him, and their kindly voices greet him, In the murmur of the breezes and the river on its bars,
And he sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended, And at night the wonderous glory of the everlasting stars.

Hooded Robins

This is video of Hooded Robins (Melanodryas cucullata) seen at Trephina Gorge, east of Alice Springs. There is a nice adult black and white male looking for insects, as well as a possible young female also on the lookout. It was really windy when I was taking the footage and the female shows how to keep a steady still eye on a wildly moving branch, when looking for insects.

Another excelent video. I love the black and white male - do you use a tripod or do you use some kind of steadycam?

Thank you. I usually use my big Miller tripod, but with the gusty windy conditions there, I still lost a lot of nice bird footage due to shake.

At around second 45 in the video, the bird keeps its head in about the same spot but as the wind pushes the branch back, you can the bird stretch out its neck. Very neat. I guess it might be sort of like getting sea legs, or maybe more like riding a rodeo bull!

Wow, what an incredible video. Watching the bird keep its head so still while everything else is moving to and fro... amazing! Thanks for sharing that.

Great video again, nice and sharp focus (something mine lack when I shoot birds)........
